Adult Bible Study

Adult Bible Study meets year-round on Thursday evenings at 6:30 PM in the Session Meeting Room, excepting holidays that fall on Thursday. There are no prerequisites and all persons from every church or no church at all are welcome. Ironically, the most common reason adults offer for not attending a Bible Study is they’re afraid they don’t know enough about the Bible to take part. In reality, no mortal has ever plumbed the depths of God’s Word, so we are all learning and growing in understanding together. Those who have studied the Bible their whole lives and those who have never opened a single page are equally able to help us all learn.

To get to the Meeting Room, enter through the door across from the Village playground (or use the Ring doorbell when children’s activities require the door to be locked), walk straight ahead, turn left at the first hallway. The Meeting Room is the last room on the left at the very end of the hall.

The passages in the study are usually those that will be discussed in worship on the following Sunday, which are listed in the monthly church newsletter. You can access the church newsletter electronically at: https://www.firstpresbyterianhoneoyefalls.org/news-media/news/

Bible studies are led by Pastor Kirk. The framework used is that the Bible is God’s gift to us to better understand and know God in Christ. In a typical Reformed way, it’s assumed the ways of God are higher and more complex than ours, so there is always more to understand and plenty to discuss. Walter Brueggemann’s insight that the Bible was written not to have meaning imposed upon others but to be discussed is central to our studies. It’s in the discussion that God becomes known more intimately. Pastor Kirk is a published Biblical scholar who prepares for each discussion while striving to incorporate the insights every participant brings.
